Deadline: January 8

MSU’s historic Romney Gymnasium is getting into the best shape of its life—and it needs some new art

At age 98 MSU-Bozeman’s Romney Hall is no spring chicken. It’s been a gymnasium,  martial arts dojo, rock climbing hangout, and just about everything else. But now Romney’s getting into serious shape—with renovations that’ll keep it going strong into its next hundred years. And the gym wouldn’t want to show off its new look without getting some new ink.

Which is where Montana’s artists come in. Through the state’s Percent for Art program, a portion of funds for all new or renovated state buildings is allocated for public art—including Romney Hall. Open to those working in all creative disciplines, the selection process will seek to select artwork appropriate to the history of Romney Hall, MSU-Bozeman and the Bozeman area which is of high artistic merit created in the spirit of the future of Romney Hall, and embracing diversity and inclusion on campus.

For artists wishing to submit proposals, the January 8, 2021 deadline is fast approaching. Full details for the project’s overview, submission requirements, selection process, timeline, payment and other details are available as a downloadable PDF from the Montana Arts Council at:
