Section 3
SB 2096 IMPLEMENTATION
During the 2026 Legislative Session, our team worked with legislators to pass Senate Bill 2096 to adopt statewide cybersecurity standards and policies for local election officials who have access to the Statewide Elections Management System (SEMS). With the passage of this bill, we took another major step in strengthening the integrity of Mississippi elections.
In order to take effect on July 1, 2026, our team has worked diligently with the Department of Information Technology Services (ITS) to establish the requirements needed to reduce vulnerabilities caused by uneven county-level practices, strengthen voter registration and election data security against unauthorized access, data breaches, and other cyber threats.
As we continue to see a rise in cyber attacks and BOT traffic, even on our own systems, it is imperative we maintain a proactive approach. Cyber threats are becoming more sophisticated, frequent, and disruptive, posing serious risks to system performance, data security, and operational continuity. By investing in stronger security measures, enhancing detection capabilities, and remaining vigilant against emerging threats, we can better protect our infrastructure, safeguard sensitive information, and ensure the continued stability and integrity of Mississippi elections.
