2025 LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES
With the 2025 Legislative Session well underway, I encourage you to be in prayer for our state legislature as it convenes over the next few months.
ELECTIONS
The need for campaign finance reform in Mississippi remains our priority. We have submitted a plan to centralize campaign finance, bringing the enforcement under one roof, and require mandatory online filing for all candidates. Our goal remains to increase enforcement of campaign finance laws and instill more accountability and transparency in our elections.
Further, we have asked lawmakers to require potential voters to provide proof of residency when registering to vote. The proposed process would confirm individuals attempting to register actually reside at the address provided, while also removing potential USPS errors from the process.
We have also submitted a plan to ensure foreign adversaries cannot intervene in our state legislative process. Lobbyists who work on behalf of foreign principals or adversaries would be required to declare such on their registration forms.
TIDELANDS
In continuing with our One Coast Tidelands effort, we are asking lawmakers for a clarified rent-free lease requirement for entities to rent the state-owned Tidelands. For record keeping purposes, this clarification also outlines the requirements for obtaining a lease.
MEPA
This bill would further enforce the Mississippi Employment Protection Act (MEPA). The proposed legislation reinforces the authority of our office and other designated state agencies to seek penalties against businesses in violation of MEPA.
I'm incredibly proud of the work we've done since I've been in office, but there is always more to accomplish. Should you have any questions or concerns, I encourage you to reach out to our office or contact your local legislator.
