TackleTheTape

"Tackle the Tape" Initiative

As promised on the campaign trail, our office is focused on cutting burdensome and unnecessary regulations for Mississippi small businesses. With the passage of Rep. Turner’s House Bill 1104, the Occupational Licensing Review Commission (OLRC) now has the authority to review all existing regulations subject to the jurisdiction of an occupational licensing board. Following this new authority, our office quickly hit the ground running with our "Tackle the Tape" initiative. The "Tackle the Tape" initiative aims to increase economic opportunities for all Mississippians by promoting competition and encouraging innovation and job growth.

Last week, we had the pleasure of meeting with the Mississippi Board of Contractors, who are already devoted to implementing changes to their rules and regulations. Partnerships like these will allow our office to be successful in cutting red tape as we move forward.

Additionally, the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs reached out to voice support and lend a hand with our new red tape reduction initiative. We are excited about this partnership and look forward to working with President Trump’s administration to further increase all Mississippians’ economic opportunities while keeping their safety and well-being at the forefront.

ElectionCheckIn

Election Check-In

We are less than 90 days away from the November 3rd election, and my goal is to make sure every Mississippian is well aware of how to safely cast their ballot. Each week, I'll be posting an "Election Check-In" video to keep voters informed of recent changes and key information. Our most recent Election Check-In video focuses on important election dates, such as absentee voting deadlines and the voter registration deadline for the general election. Visit yallvote.ms for additional voter information.

BorderPicture

Trip to the Border

Earlier this month, I made a trip to Sunland Park, New Mexico, to visit the We Build The Wall's section of the border wall and learn more about its impact on illegal immigration. The trip provided insight on what private citizens can do to help with the border crisis and the impact of illegal immigrants on our elections process. Election security is multifaceted, and I'm happy to see privately-funded efforts such as this contributing to the goal of safe and fair elections.

LunchSummerInterns

Summer Interns

One of my favorite parts about being in this position is having the opportunity to connect  with young leaders. Our office has five bright and ambitious summer interns, and I enjoyed spending quality time with each of them during a special lunch at our Capital Towers Office. We discussed family, faith, politics, and their plans for the future. Abbie, Garrett, Alex, Lorelei, and Katera, I see so much potential in all of you, and I am more than excited to have you on the team.

82-County Tour

I stopped by the Courthouse in Belzoni on August 4th to check in with Circuit Clerk Tamika James-Jones and the Humphrey’s County Election Commissioners during the Humphrey's County special election for Tax Collector/Tax Assessor. This team does an incredible job of staying organized and keeping voters engaged. To the Humphrey's County elections team, thank you again for your creativity and dedication to protecting our election system.

Staff Spotlight

Nan Ainsworth

Nan Ainsworth

Hometown: Jackson, Mississippi

Nan Ainsworth joined the Secretary of State’s Office in 1997 and currently serves as our Special Projects Officer for the Business Services Division. She's "a jack of all trades" and her charisma is cherished in every corner of our office.

This month is bittersweet, as Nan plans to retire from the Secretary of State’s Office after 23 years of service. Although I did not have the opportunity to work with her for long, I can honestly say there will never be another like Nan. We'll miss her spunk around the office, and we're incredibly thankful for her time, wisdom, and dedication to serving the people of Mississippi.
