Development grants available through Met Council
Do you have a financial interest in a development project in Minneapolis? You may qualifuy for funds through the Metropolitan Council Livable Communities program.
Learn how to apply.
The Metropolitan Council funds the Livable Communities program. Cities can apply for grant funds for development projects. Each year, the City chooses projects through our sponsorship application process. Then we apply for Livable Communities grants on behalf of the selected projects.
The program funds projects that support the Metropolitan Council’s goals, which include:
- Connect housing, jobs, parks and trails
- Offer more housing choices like:
- New affordable homes to rent or buy
- Keep affordable homes
- Homes that are affordable and designed for:
- Families
- Seniors (55+)
- Youth (ages 16-24)
- People who are moving out of homelessness
- Create living wage jobs
- Help small businesses grow
- Help the planet by using less energy when building
- Create places for people to gather, such as new public spaces
- Create fairer development outcomes
We expect to recommend up to eight applications to the City Council for the 2026 program year. The City will accept sponsorship applications only once in 2026. We expect the Metropolitan Council to offer two rounds of applications in 2026. The City will decide which projects to submit in which round.
The City’s sponsorship application deadline is 4 p.m. on January 20, 2026. The $750 application fee must arrive by the application deadline. Late sponsorship applications are not accepted. The City reserves the right to accept or reject all sponsorship applications and rescind this notice of funding availability.
