The City of Minneapolis is proud to announce that it has been named one of the Top 100 Most Bicycle-Friendly Cities in the World by the internationally recognized Copenhagenize Index. The 2025 edition of the biennial ranking highlights cities that are leading the way in cycling infrastructure, accessibility, and culture. Minneapolis placed 44th overall.

This marks a significant milestone for Minneapolis, which continues to invest in sustainable transportation, equitable mobility, and climate resilience. The Copenhagenize Index evaluated 150 cities in total across 14 criteria, including infrastructure, safety, modal share, and political will.

"Minneapolis is quickly becoming one of the United States' leading cycling cities," the report said. "Cycling has been mainstreamed into multiple departments in city hall and guided by the Transportation Action Plan and 'All Ages and Abilities' network approach."

The Index specifically profiled and praised the Bryant Avenue S reconstruction—which was completed in 2024 and constructed 2.5 miles of curb-level bikeway from Lake Street to W 50th Street—as a global "success story." The profile wrote that Bryant Avenue S is "a model of safe, green, and inclusive street design."

Minneapolis achieved the 26th highest score for infrastructure of the ranked cities, reflecting the work done on corridors like Bryant Avenue S, as well as the recently opened Hennepin Avenue and 1st Avenue S.
