The City has extended the application deadline for City-owned Parklets to April 13! All other applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
Warm weather and patio season is just around the corner - apply today to host a Parklet or Street Cafe for the 2025 season. These programs activate community corridors with fun public spaces that make neighborhoods more vibrant and support local businesses. If you are interested in creating unique public gathering spaces in your neighborhood, now is the time to apply!
Ways to participate:
Neighborhood organizations, street-level businesses, nonprofits, community organizations, and Special Services Districts are all invited to apply.
-
City owned parklets – The City is looking for three community partners to host our City-owned parklets for the 2025 season. City-owned parklets include all the necessary structures, plantings, chairs, tables, patio umbrellas, and public parklet signage. Hosts are responsible for day-to-day maintenance such as watering plants, picking up trash, and reporting any issues. City-owned parklet hosts are selected through a competitive application process.
-
Community parklets – Businesses and organizations can apply to create their own public parklet space. The design and installation of community parklets is the responsibility of the applicant.
-
Street Cafes – Street level businesses looking to expand their outdoor seating can apply for a street café. This space functions as an extension of your business where you can seat and serve your customers.

The 2025 City of Minneapolis Trans Equity Summit has been scheduled for Monday, Aug. 11, at the McNamara Alumni Center. The theme for this year’s event is “Trans Equity and Intergenerational Power: Strengthening the Future by Honoring Our Past.”
The City of Minneapolis and partners are planning the all-day, free event that provides space to connect on social, legal and health issues important to the transgender community.
The summit will include breakout sessions, a job and resource fair and healing justice offerings. Space will be protected for community care and collective witnessing for trans and gender non-conforming neighbors.

Recruiting for several of the spring boards and commissions has stayed open through April 20. We’re looking for applicants with a diversity of backgrounds and experiences representing the demographics of Minneapolis to strengthen the work of the City. Translation and interpreting are available so all residents can participate.
This is a way to help make changes and improvements that affect your community. Serving on City boards and commissions offers a direct way for residents to advise City leadership about topics important to them.
Apply by April 20 on the City website.

April 16 is National Healthcare Decisions Day. Make sure your loved ones know what you want so your health care choices are honored. Anyone over 18 can draft health care directives.
The directive outlines your health care wishes. It can be informal, but it must show your name and date, have your signature verified by a notary public or two witnesses, and name a person to make health care decisions for you if you’re unable to.
