$15.57 Minimum Wage in 2024

In 2024, the minimum wage across the city of Minneapolis has risen to $15.57 in January or July, depending on business size.

On January 1, 2024, larger employers (more than 100 employees) and franchises started paying at least $15.57.

On July 1, 2024, all other employers (100 or fewer employees) reached the same required minimum wage of $15.57.

Coverage depends on the physical location (in the city of Minneapolis) of the employee while the employee is performing work, regardless of the employee’s age or training.

Sick and Safe Time

Also new in 2024, paid sick or equivalent leave is required to be provided for employees across the state of Minnesota. Paid sick or equivalent leave ("sick and safe time") was previously a legal right for employees only in Minneapolis, St. Paul, Bloomington, and Duluth. It is now required to be provided by all employers (*including very small employers*) across the entire state. For more information, visit the MN Department of Labor and Industry at dli.mn.gov/sick-leave.

Be aware that the state law covers micro-employers and also applies to new hires, including in Minneapolis.

Paid sick or equivalent leave ("sick and safe time") must be accessible to employees, and accrual information must be displayed on paystubs. Employees have a legal right to earnings statements (pay stubs) and full payment for all wages earned.
