Dear neighbor,
Following last year's civil unrest, sparked by the murder of George Floyd, I led an effort to hire an outside group to conduct an After-Action Review into the City’s response to the protests and civil unrest in May and June 2020. This group is Hillard Heintze, who are experts in disaster response and have a well rounded focus that includes first responders, civil rights, and community engagement. We must learn as much as possible from last year and move forward as a city to both heal and establish better practices in all corners of service delivery.
Part of this team's efforts will include listening sessions for the public to participate in and provide feedback. During this session, the team will introduce themselves and give an overview of the project’s objectives and anticipated outcome. After the initial introduction, facilitators will host breakout groups to hear the perspectives of all residents in attendance.
This evaluator has conducted nearly 100 interviews, both with stakeholder groups and individuals, myself included. They are offering two opportunities for the public to participate online. Click on one of the following dates/times to register:
Thursday, August 12 from 5:30-7:00pm
Friday, August 13 from 1:30-3:00pm
I understand that these are difficult discussions that can bring up anxiety, and I understand that folks might not want to relive these experiences. However, I highly encourage every resident who has the time and emotional capacity to participate in these sessions as every one of us was impacted during those months.
Yours in service,
|
