City Seeks CSA Farms for Workplace CSA

The City of Minneapolis Stride Employee Wellness Program is opening a proposal process for Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) local farms to partner in our workplace CSA program.  The goal of this program is to promote healthier eating by providing City of Minneapolis employees with access to locally sourced, quality produce at an affordable cost and in turn supporting a local farm enterprise.

Minneapolis Garden Lease Program 2021 Application Opens Jan. 19

The 2021 priority application to lease City-owned lots for community or market gardens will be open on the Garden Lease Program webpage beginning on January 19.

Minneapolis Indoor Dining May Re-open with Limitations; Seating and Service at the Bar Counter Not Allowed.

On Wednesday, Jan. 6, Governor Walz announced a loosening of COVID-19 restrictions. Dine-in service at restaurants and bars may reopen Monday, Jan. 11. In Minneapolis, bar counters remain closed to customers.

Prepare and implement a COVID-19 Preparedness Plan that follows all requirements in the Minnesota Executive Order 20-01. This is required for all businesses.

Capacity and hours of operation

  • Occupancy capacity is limited to no more than 50% of the capacity, up to a maximum of 150 customers inside and a maximum of 150 customers outside.
  • No more than six customers may be seated together at any one time. 
  • Onsite dining hours are between 4:00 am and 10:00 pm.
  • Takeout, delivery, and other service for offsite consumption may continue after onsite dining closes at 10:00 pm.

No bar service

  • Minneapolis Emergency Regulation 2020-17 remains in effect, keeping bar service closed.
  • Customers may not be seated at or order from bar counters, even if plexiglass is installed.
  • For businesses that only use counter service, customers may get their orders then be seated.
  • Customers must remain seated at their tables. 
  • Reservations are required for onsite dining.

Spacing and masks

  • Tables must be set so customers are six feet apart from those at other tables when seated.
  • Customers and staff are required to wear masks indoors, except when eating or drinking.

Lakewinds Organic Field Fund Grants

Applications for the 10th year of Lakewinds Organic Field Fund (LOFF) are being accepted now through January 31. LOFF was established as part of Lakewinds’ efforts to help build a resilient local food system.  These funds can help with infrastructure and other projects that will help farms be more profitable.

Gus Schumacher Nutrition Incentive Program (GusNIP) Grants
Formerly Known as the Food Insecurity Nutrition Incentive Program (FINI)

The Gus Schumacher Nutrition Incentive Program supports projects to increase the purchase of fruits and vegetables among low-income consumers participating in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) by providing incentives at the point of purchase. Community Food Projects Competitive Grants Program (CFPCGP)

The Community Food Projects Competitive Grant Program (CFPCGP) fights food insecurity through developing community food projects that help promote the self-sufficiency of low-income communities.

Hennepin County Small Business Relief Fund

A new round of grants through Hennepin County will be available for small businesses and nonprofits that have been financially harmed by the COVID-19 pandemic in the new year.  This round of funding includes expanded eligibility for nonprofits that earn revenue similar to businesses and for businesses impacted by prior executive orders that reduced capacity and whose revenue decreased by at least 30% including customer-facing businesses such as personal care and salon businesses; retail businesses that sell household goods or services; other customer-facing businesses that rely on in-person transactions or services, such as dry cleaners, house cleaning businesses.

USDA Seeks Nominations from Minneapolis-St Paul for USDA Farm Service Agency Urban Agriculture Committee

The USDA recently announced that it is adding six new Farm Service Agency (FSA) county committees focused exclusively on urban agriculture and is seeking nominations for committee members from six cities, including Minneapolis-St Paul.

Nominations will be solicited beginning in June 2021 and must be postmarked or received in the local FSA office by August 2, 2021. To be considered, a producer must sign an FSA-669A nomination form. The form and other information about FSA county committee elections are available at fsa.usda.gov/elections or farmers.gov/urban. Election ballots will be mailed to eligible voters beginning Nov. 1, 2021.
