City of Lakes

Dear Neighbor,

I am relieved to say that last night was a more peaceful evening and am hopeful that tonight brings more of the same. George Floyd should not have died, and should be with us today. This has been an overwhelming time for our community, in myriad ways, and yet I am inspired by our public's response in this crisis.

However, that does not mean it was a night without incident. Please stay home tonight. There continue to be reports of suspicious activity, so if you see something amiss on your block report it immediately by calling 911. If you cannot get through to 911 email me at Linea.Palmisano@minneapolismn.gov and I can get your information to the coordinated response team.

The Minneapolis Fire Department, in coordination with the St. Paul Fire Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, are investigating reports of incendiary containers being found throughout the city. Please store all of your flammable objects immediately. This includes propane tanks, fire wood, gasoline canisters and anything else. If you see water bottles or containers of liquid in suspicious places call 911 immediately.

There was a fire near 58th and Xerxes Ave S last night. The Minneapolis Fire Department and the National Guard were on scene very quickly to put it out and have opened an investigation. There have been 87 fires in the Twin Cities in the last 5 days.

In addition to incendiary containers please be on the lookout for vehicles without license plates or individuals stowing firearms in the trunks of their cars. Last night the coordinated public safety groups confiscated 13 guns while on patrol.

Both Minneapolis and St. Paul again have curfews tonight beginning at 10:00pm and going until 4:00am. There are no current plans for highway closures, but again that could change. If you are signed up for emergency alerts from the City and are not receiving them, check your settings and see if you have emergency/priority notifications turned on.

Governor Walz has made it clear that the coordinated efforts of the National Guard, State Patrol, Minneapolis Police Department and other local jurisdictions will all still be present this evening. Rapid response will also be at the ready and I am still in communication with the coordinated response efforts.

Stay safe everyone,
