Announcing our keynote for the 6th Annual Minneapolis Trans Equity Summit, Micky B!

MickyB

Micky B is a Black Trans Femme using cultural organizing to make liberation irresistible. Micky descends from the 1st free Black welders in Southwest Georgia where they spent their childhood summers. As a young person, Micky’s political awakening was grown through Black drag queens, Black Queer men living with HIV, and Black women on the front lines of reproductive justice. In 2015, Micky B co-founded “Southern Fried Queer Pride” (SFQP), a queer art festival turned art education non-profit. Help us welcome her at the 6th Annual Minneapolis Trans Equity Summit!

The Summit will be held on Thursday, September 26 at the Walker Art Center. Find more info about the Summit on Facebook here: http://bit.ly/TransEquity and register here: http://bit.ly/2HwYGRZ. Registration is available in English, Spanish, Somali and Hmong!

Northside oral History voting

In 2018, the Division of Race and Equity launched the Northside Oral History Project. After collecting stories of elders who have lived in the Penn/Plymouth area of North Minneapolis for the last 50 years, we’re asking you to help decide how these stores are told.

If you are 13+ and either work or live in Minneapolis, we're asking you to vote on project ideas for the Northside Oral History Project. NO ID REQUIRED FOR VOTING.

If you are unable to vote in-person, online voting will be available on our Facebook page 9/23-9/29.

Community Healing - From Race to Culture

A Ceremony to Reveal and Acknowledge Truth & Mourning
The Aftermath of a 400 Year Tragedy 1619.

Community Healing - From Race to Culture
In August of 1619, a ship appeared on his horizon, near Point Comfort, a coastal port in the British colony of Virginia. It carried more than 20 enslaved Africans, who were sold to the colonists. America was not yet America, but this was the moment it began. No aspect of the country that would be formed here has been untouched by the 250 years of slavery that followed. On the 400th anniversary of this fateful moment, it is finally time to tell our story truthfully. ~ The 1619 Project
