Ensuring that City staff understand the trauma that is happening across the City will give them the tools and strategies to better serve those communities.
CLUES allowed us to film these courses and offer them as packaged video courses. These courses are now available for City employees and community members! There are 6 courses in the series. NOTE: These courses are 1-2 hours in length. Allow ample time to complete each course.

History of Race - Artist in Residence Projects
Oral History Project Launched
The Oral history project originated from staff and community members who recognized the need to capture story from Plymouth/Penn Corridor's past and present residents. Several partners were consulted in the Request For Qualifications process including George Roberts at Homewood Studios, Jamez Staples at Renewable Energy Inc., NorthPoint Health and Wellness, the Minneapolis Urban League and the Minneapolis Police department. 4000 More Creative was selected to collect the stories from residents.
To collect these valuable stories from Minneapolis residents, 4000 More Creative is partnering with Pop Up Think Tanks, Kenya McKnight, Pierre Fulford and others to recruit story tellers and youth. Throughout the project, youth will be trained to conduct the interviews that capture the stories. The ReCAST team would like to be inclusive and collect as many stories as possible from those who can speak to the history of the Plymouth/Penn Corridor.
Please email ReCASTMinneapolisInfo@minneapolismn.gov if you know of a community member who has this knowledge and should be recruited to tell their story. Additionally, if you know of any similar projects that are underway or have been completed, please let us know so we can identify ways to align and/or build upon them.

Mural Installation Progress & Call for Video Producers
The mural created by community members alongside City staff is nearly complete and ready to hang inside of City hall! The ReCAST team is looking for a video producer to create a short storytelling video about the mural project, its development, and feedback from the residents and staff involved in creating it. Because the mural imagery was created by themes from the Latino community's immigration experience, ideally the video producer involved would be able to bring that lens as well.
If you are interested and know someone who would be interested, please email ReCASTMinneapolisInfo@minneapolismn.gov to find out more about the project!

Robin DiAngelo & Resmaa Menakem: Experiencing the Racial Body & Mind
Dr. DiAngelo will describe the way race shapes the lives of White people, explain what makes racism so hard for White people to see, and identify common White racial patterns that prevent us from moving towards greater racial equity. Weaving information, analysis, stories, images, and familiar examples, she will provide the framework needed to develop white racial literacy. Developing racial literacy is a foundational step, but we won’t address racism through an intellectual understanding alone.
Racism is also about the body. The body is where we live, where we fear, hope, and react; where we constrict and relax; and where we fight, flee, or freeze. The body is where we store the lessons of racism. Resmaa Menakem, a social worker specializing in trauma, will explore the inherited trauma of white supremacy.

About ReCAST Minneapolis
The Resilience in Communities After Stress & Trauma (ReCAST) Minneapolis Program is funded through a multi-year grant from the Department of Health and Human Services' Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). ReCAST Minneapolis is intended to assist high-risk youth and families, and promote resilience and equity in communities that have recently faced civil unrest through the implementation of evidence-based violence prevention and community youth engagement programs, as well as linkages to trauma-informed behavioral health services. SAMHSA created the ReCAST Program to support communities that have lived through demonstrations of mass protest in response to police-involved shootings of unarmed African-American males.
