Signs $6 Million in Community Contracts to Support Residents Amid Federal Shutdown
Jackson County, MO, -
This week, Jackson County Executive Phil LeVota signed dozens of contracts with community agencies totaling $6 million to support programs serving Jackson County residents.
“These contracts represent another example of county government stepping up to meet the needs of our residents—without controversy and without delay,” said County Executive LeVota. “Even as the federal government remains shut down, SNAP benefits are suspended, and many federal workers are not being paid, Jackson County is continuing to do its part to provide stability and support for our community.”
The funding, authorized by the Jackson County Legislature and drawn from general revenue, will be distributed to local nonprofit and community partners in the coming week. These funds are separate from the County’s ARPA allocations, which are expected to be released later next month.
“I appreciate my colleagues in the County Legislature for their partnership in authorizing these contracts for my signature,” LeVota added. “Together, we’re ensuring that Jackson County families have access to the services and resources they need most.”
LeVota also thanked Governor Mike Kehoe for taking swift action at the statewide level to provide emergency food assistance for Missouri families facing a lapse in SNAP benefits, as recently reported by St. Louis Public Radio. “I’m grateful that state and local governments are working in tandem to help Missouri families get through this challenging time,” LeVota said.
