Children’s Division Team Members,

Earlier this year we worked with Change & Innovations to launch the Central Consult Unit (CCU) in an effort to streamline our workload management strategy. This process benefits both Missouri families and Children’s Division workers by reducing workloads more efficiently and closing out involvement with families more quickly.

Many of our team members have seen success through adopting this model. According to the latest data, the average consultation time is only 34 minutes! This has resulted in caseload reductions statewide between 40%-56%, and we have also seen 20% of our safe reports close by day 7. Team members who use CCU consistently are averaging a caseload of under 10 reports open at a time!  In order to make the best possible statewide impact, it is integral that our team members use the CCU.

Please take a moment and listen to what CD team members and CCU Specialists had to say about their experience with the CCU over the past 6 months:

We heard your feedback

When Children’s Division team members from across the state partnered with Change & Innovation to look at process improvement and developed CCU, a consistent message was “Do, Learn, Do,” that we would continue to learn from our work and refine the process. We have heard the feedback provided and are taking what we have learned through six months of utilizing CCU to refine the process to meet the needs of our team.

Starting now

  • CCU will enter the Risk Assessment any time you call
  • There is not a tenure requirement to call CCU.  Once a team member completes CWPT, they should begin calling on CCU qualifying cases. The first few calls should be made with a seasoned worker/mentor/supervisor/etc. to offer support and continue OJT.

Starting October 3rd

  • The CCU will enter all of your documentation. On cases that qualify to be called through CCU, if you call within 72 hours, CCU Specialists will enter all of your documentation, including timely initial contacts and Safety Assessments. Remember, you do not need to be ready to close! Just call for a consult! We are removing as many barriers as we can to capture the work you have done on the assessment as close to the decision point as we can.
  • Timely Initial Contact & the Safety Assessment. The TIC and Safety Assessment must still be entered within 72 hours. If you do not call the CCU within 72 hours, the TIC and Safety Assessment should be entered local. If you enter them local, you must still call CCU within 7 days on all CCU qualifying cases.

It has been messaged since the rollout, the assessment process in the field does not change; just the ease of who is doing the documentation

As always, we appreciate the hard work that Children’s Division team members continue to put forth every day. It does not go unnoticed, and the State of Missouri is better because of YOU!
