Shorter days and the cold can raise tensions. The production of contraband increases when there is less activity or we feel trapped indoors because of the weather. Security checks is an effective way to check the tone of our work areas plus they help keep our community, institutions and Offenders safe. When we perform those checks we are checking the wellbeing of those in our area, that its free of contraband and other safety concerns.

We have compiled photos of various homemade weapons and other significant contraband finds that have been sent to the Security Intelligence Unit over the last several months. Together we are improving our overall safety and creating safer worksites for everyone! Keep up the great work!

Weapons

Almost anything can be made into some type of weapon. Brass knuckles, ice picks or knives have been made with and without sheathes. Plastic or metal you continue to find them.

You've seen various types of weapon. When you search, do you have a favorite place to look? Have you mentored and passed on some of those skills to someone less experienced than you? As a team we are making our worksites safer. When you find it, take it and report it.  Remember to wear your PPE, do not place your hands where you cannot see and keep your eyes open. Keep doing great things!
