Dear families and friends:

Testing has identified one offender case and multiple staff cases of COVID-19 at Southeast Correctional Center (SECC) in Charleston. Visiting is suspended at SECC until further notice.

At this time, visiting continues as scheduled only at:

  • Kansas City Reentry Center (KCRC) in Kansas City

Visits must be scheduled in advance, and visitors must follow new guidelines. See details on our website: doc.mo.gov/programs/family-friends/visiting.

To contain the virus, the department has begun COVID-19 random sample testing, in which 10% of the population of each facility is tested, to help identify possible asymptomatic outbreaks. The department also continues to test offenders on intake, before release, before transfer, when symptoms are present, when an offender has been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for the virus, and when a case occurs in a confined work area or living space (boxed-in testing). Wastewater testing underway at all facilities detects the presence of COVID-19 in residents' waste and helps us to anticipate and contain potential outbreaks.

We understand that contact with loved ones is an essential component of strong families as well as successful reentry into the community, and we hope that you will continue to stay in touch through free Securus phone calls and JPay email messages until visiting can resume.

If you have a loved one in a Missouri Department of Corrections facility, please sign up to receive email or text alerts at public.govdelivery.com/accounts/MODOC/subscriber/new. Enter your email address or cell phone number, and select "Family & Friends" in the topics menu.

Thank you for your patience as we work to keep everyone safe.
