Missouri Department of Corrections sent this bulletin at 09/18/2020 06:15 PM CDTSept. 18, 2020
The all-staff email update on COVID-19 data is sent to corrections staff each Friday.
The COVID-19 data page on the department website will continue to be updated daily. Check the site for the latest information.
This week, sample testing, or surveillance testing, which entails testing 10% of the people each facility, took place at Cremer Therapeutic Community Center, Fulton Reception & Diagnostic Center, Northeast Correctional Center, Potosi Correctional Center, South Central Correctional Center and Western Missouri Correctional Center. The numbers reflect cases found through this process as well as our other testing strategies: intake, pre-release, pre-transfer, symptomatic and close-contact testing.
Next week, testing takes place at Algoa Correctional Center, Boonville Correctional Center, Farmington Correctional Center, Kansas City Reentry Center, Maryville Treatment Center and Southeast Correctional Center.
Post-Test Procedures
- Offenders who test positive for COVID-19 are isolated until they test negative.
- Facility staff who test positive are sent home on leave and must test negative before returning to work.
- All staff who have close contact with a positive are sent home for two weeks of quarantine.
Missouri Data in Context
Missouri continues to support the nation's most aggressive and comprehensive department of corrections testing strategy. Missouri's prison COVID infection rate is lower than that of seven of Missouri's eight bordering states, and the positivity rate inside Missouri prisons remains lower than the overall positivity rate for the state's population as a whole.
Most states with lower infection rates also have lower testing rates. Missouri's implementation of mass testing has helped to identify and isolate asymptomatic cases of COVID-19, thereby containing the spread of the virus.
