Visiting CANCELED at Western Missouri Correctional Center Sept. 5-6

Dear families and friends: 

Because a new case of COVID-19 has been identified at Western Missouri Correctional Center (WMCC) in Cameron, Missouri, scheduled visiting is canceled Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 5-6.

Scheduled visiting will take place as planned Friday, Sept. 4.

Beginning Saturday, Sept. 5, WMCC visiting will be suspended until further notice.

Visiting continues as scheduled at the following facilities only:

• Algoa Correctional Center (ACC) in Jefferson City
• Jefferson City Correctional Center (JCCC) in Jefferson City
• Moberly Correctional Center (MCC) in Moberly  
• Kansas City Reentry Center (KCRC) in Kansas City - Friday through Sunday only

Mass COVID-19 testing of offenders and staff in all correctional centers has been completed, and visiting is expected to resume in the coming weeks at facilities with no active cases of the virus. Offenders will be notified.

To contain the virus, the department has begun COVID-19 random sample testing, in which 10% of the population of each facility is tested, to help identify possible asymptomatic outbreaks. The department also continues to test offenders on intake, before release, when symptoms are present, and when an offender has been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for the virus.
