Dear Corrections Team:

Health officials and state leaders continue to work hard to contain the spread of COVID-19, commonly known as coronavirus. Because we work in environments where people have close contact and communicable diseases can spread quickly, we must be vigilant about protecting the health of staff and offenders.

Starting this week, any staff member or other person entering any Missouri Department of Corrections facility, office or other property will be screened. All staff must complete a verbal screening process before entering a Corrections property to begin work. Staff who do not successfully complete the screening will be given instructions and information regarding next steps.

Please note that this type of screening rapidly has become a common practice in other types of facilities in Missouri as well as in departments of corrections in other states. This screener is simple and quick and is being utilized to keep us all healthy and safe.

Offender visiting, except for legal purposes, has been suspended since March 12. Offender transportation also has been suspended, except in extenuating circumstances.

Please visit doc.mo.gov for updates on department preparation for COVID-19, and visit health.mo.gov for statewide COVID-19 information.

In times of crisis, the work done by the Department of Corrections is critical — and often heroic. The wellbeing of our communities depends on what happens on the front lines. Thank you for looking out for your team, and thank you for making Missouri safer.
