Missouri Department of Natural Resources' Brownfields Voluntary Cleanup Program helps spread information about grants and other assistance that is available to help redevelop brownfield properties. This email includes a summary of several different grants and other assistance currently available from a variety of entities. Please check out their web sites for more information including application due dates.

SMART GROWTH AMERICA

This technical assistance is available under grants US EPA awarded to the organization through the Office of Sustainable Communities Building Blocks for Sustainable Communities Grant Program. 

Smart Growth America is offering 12 different technical assistance workshops:

  • Planning for economic and fiscal health
  • Regional planning for small communities
  • Sustainable land use code audit
  • Smart growth zoning codes for small cities
  • Complete streets
  • Walkability workshop/audit
  • Transportation performance measurement
  • Parking audit
  • Implementing transit-oriented development 101
  • Cool planning: local strategies to slow climate change
  • Using LEED-ND to accelerate the development of sustainable communities

GLOBAL GREEN USA

Global Green USA is soliciting applications for no-cost technical assistance.  This assistance is available under grants US EPA awarded to the organization through the Office of Sustainable Communities Building Blocks for Sustainable Communities Grant Program. 

Global Green USA's technical assistance is based on the LEED for Neighborhood Development standard, which provides a nationally recognized method for creating neighborhoods that are walkable, bikeable, resource-efficient, and equitable.   At the conclusion of the assistance, the team provides recommendations for both physical and policy changes that can enhance neighborhood sustainability.   The application can be found on the web at globalgreen.org/leedndtechassist and is due to Global Green on Friday December 20, 2013 at 6pm PST.  

ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE GRANTS

EPA's Office of Environmental Justice announces the opening of its Request for Applications (RFA) for the 2014 Environmental Justice Collaborative Problem-Solving (EJCPS) Cooperative Agreement Program. The (EJCPS) Cooperative Agreement Program provides funding for eligible applicants for projects that address local environmental and/or public health issues within an affected community. The EJCPS Program is designed to help eligible non-profit and Native American communities understand and address exposure to multiple environmental harms and risks at the local level.

The total estimated available funding for awards under this competitive opportunity is $1,200,000. Awards will be made in amounts of up to $120,000 per award for a two year project period. Interested applicants are invited to participate in conference calls with EPA to address questions about the EJCPS Program and this solicitation. EPA BROWNFIELDS ASSESSMENT, REVOLVING LOAN FUND, AND CLEANUP (ARC) GRANTS   

The FY2014 EPA Brownfields Assessment, Revolving Loan Fund, and Cleanup (ARC) Grants guidelines were announced on November 22nd. Communities will have until January 22, 2014 to submit their applications. Please visit www.epa.gov/oswer/grants-funding.htm for the guidelines.

WEBINARS (to assist with the ARC Grants)

TAB Webinars – Will be available soon. Technical Assistance to Brownfields (TAB) provides free technical assistance with brownfields redevelopment efforts. In the meantime, there is a lot of information in the “Education” tab at the top of the TAB Webpage.

NALGEP, the Center for Creative Land Recycling (CCLR), and the KSU Technical Assistance to Brownfields Communities Program are hosting a webinar on Wednesday December 4 at 2:00 p.m. eastern time to get the latest advice on preparing a successful application. This webinar will walk listeners through basic (but surprisingly often overlooked) advice for applicants, as well as new changes in grant guidelines, and funding trends. Speakers will provide special tips for small and rural communities and lend their insight into common mistakes and special advantages for these applicants.
