Missouri Department of Natural Resources
Public Notice of Proposed 2014 303(d) List and 2016 Listing Methodology
Public Comment Period through January 31, 2014
On October 15, 2013, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources will publish a draft of Missouri’s 2014 303(d) List and the 2016 Listing Methodology document. The 303(d) list and the procedures used to develop the next list are open to the public for review and comment until January 31, 2014. Section 303(d) of the federal Clean Water Act requires each state to identify waters that are not meeting water quality standards and for which adequate water pollution controls have not been required. Water quality standards protect beneficial uses of water for whole body contact recreation (such as swimming), maintaining fish and other aquatic life, and providing drinking water for people, livestock and wildlife. The 303(d) list helps state and federal agencies keep track of waters that have impairment.
The public may view copies of the proposed 2014 303(d) List on the department’s Web site at www.dnr.mo.gov/env/wpp/waterquality/303d.htm. Supporting water quality data, the 2014 Listing Methodology document, which contains the procedures used to develop the list, and other information are available on the department’s Web site. If unable to access the information through the Web, individuals may request copies of the list from the department’s Water Protection Program by calling 1-800-361-4827 or (573) 751-1300.
The Department will hold two information sessions to take comments and answer questions on the proposed 2014 303(d) List and 2016 Listing Methodology Document. The public is encouraged to participate in this process if they have concerns regarding the content of the documents or if they would like to provide written support for the process. The information sessions will be held at the following dates and times.
