Pharmacy Self-Assessment  CE Opportunity

The new year brings another opportunity to assess your pharmacy’s compliance and earn two hours of free continuing education (CE) while doing so. The Pharmacy Self-Assessment Form is a tool that assists in conducting your own compliance inspection. Pharmacists-in-charge, pharmacy managers, owners, supervisors, and corporate officers are eligible to earn CE for completing the assessment each calendar year.

Revised Inspection Records Locator

The Inspection Records Locator  is a document used to help pharmacy staff locate pharmacy records that will likely be requested during a Board inspection.   The Locator has been revised to include record requirements from recent new and revised regulations, such as, technician supervision, remote data entry, pharmacist nicotine replacement prescribing, policies and procedures, and Class R Remote Dispensing Site.  The Board encourages all pharmacies to use the Locator to facilitate the inspection process.

Class M: Specialty (Bleeding Disorder)

20 CSR 2220-6.100 requires all Class M pharmacies to notify the Board on or before January 31st of each year if the pharmacy intends to provide legend blood-clotting products for bleeding disorder patients. Pharmacies can file their annual notice of intention online.

January 13-14, 2021 Board Meeting

The Missouri Board of Pharmacy will be meeting on January 13 and 14, 2021 via conference call.  Call in information and the meeting agenda can be found on the Board’s website approximately one week prior to the meeting.

DHSS/BNDD Electronic Prescribing Update.

The following information has been provided by the Missouri Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs (BNDD)

BNDD is receiving calls that some pharmacies are refusing to fill prescriptions that are not electronic.

There are about 8 exceptions under the law where electronic prescriptions are not required.  The law does not require pharmacies to enforce electronic prescribing or to make inquiries.  The law states that pharmacies will continue to be able to fill prescriptions that are on paper, faxed, or telephoned.  Pharmacies are not expected to make queries to determine if prescribers should be electronically prescribing.  Any waiver that a practitioner gets is confidential and cannot be released.

Practitioners may:

  1. Visit the BNDD website at https://health.mo.gov/safety/bndd
  2. At the top of the page, click on the link to Apply for Electronic Prescription Waiver
  3. That link gives them documents such as a copy of the statute, the emergency rule to push back compliance until 3/31/21, a copy of the emergency waiver and our rule, and then we have a fillable PDF application form.  The application is one page and asks limited questions.
  4. IMPORTANT—The form must be saved and submitted to a specific email account which is BNDDRxWaiver@health.mo.gov
  5. Applications will be handled in the order in which they are received.

Copies of the waiver, statute, and emergency rule are attached.

During this next year, the waiver questions will be added to the annual application for registration that registrants fill out and submit once a year when they get a new registration.
