► World Cup: DHSS launched a new webpage with Missouri-specific information
► Heat: DHSS Urges Caution During High Heat and Humidity as World Cup Events Begin, (press release, 6/11/2026)
► Elder Abuse:DHSS Recognizes Elder Abuse Awareness Day, June 15 (press release, 6/20/2026). The Governor’s Office will also light up the dome with purple on the night of June 15 in observance.
► DHSS Website Relaunch (early July): DHSS has done major restructuring of its website and plans to launch the newly designed site in early July. This is a minor postponement from what was previously shared on last week's LPHA Update Call. A priority focus has been placed on improving the user experience, making the site easier to navigate and information easier to find. There will also be multiple places where users can find connection information for a local health department near them. Prior to the official launch, DHSS will be inviting LPHAs to take a peek at the new site and provide feedback. More details will be shared on the June 16 LPHA Update Call.
► Missouri Environmental Health Specialist Survey: Missouri Smallflows Organization (MSO) is reaching out to all county regulators who work in the onsite wastewater industry for feedback. The association is developing training specifically for regulators. Your participation in this survey will help MSO include training components that are most beneficial to you and your staff. ► 6/10/2026: The American Medical Association (AMA) adopts new public health policies to improve public health, including food is medicine interventions and opposing flavored electronic nicotine delivery systems. (link)
► 6/10/2026: The DRC government confirm nearly 600 cases of Ebola with 115 deaths, leaving the case fatality rate at 19.2%. (link)
► 6/10/2026: The CDC reports nine cases of listeriosis in the northeast U.S. linked to an ongoing outbreak involving soft ricotta cheese, including one fatality. (link)
► 6/10/2026: The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) releases its own recommended vaccine schedule for pregnant women, recommending more vaccines than the CDC schedule.
► 6/10/2026: After fierce debate at an American Medical Association meeting this week, the recommendation to support universal newborn screening for congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV) was referred for more study. (link)
► 6/10/2026: The American Medical Association passed a new policy to oppose the use of the word “provider” when referring to physicians, stating this confuses patients and leads to scope creep and threatens patient safety. (link)

► 6/10/2026: Relax Relief Rejuvenate Trading, LLC (RRR) and owner Dustin Robinson have agreed to suspend all in-state sales of 7-hydroxymitragynine (7-OH) and other kratom alkaloids immediately, ending a lawsuit filed by the Missouri attorney general’s office. Yahoo News. (link)

► Rural Health Policy: The Rural Health Policy Lab at Wash U. conducts research on health services and public health in rural areas in the U.S. in partnership with the Rural Policy Research Institute (RUPRI) Center for Rural Health Policy Analysis based at the University of Iowa. The lab studies how government policies, especially insurance programs, affect access and affordability of health care for rural citizens and rural delivery systems, and produces analyses that are designed to be useful for federal and state policymakers.
► Missouri CEDS Data and Research, from the Missouri Department of Economic Development. This page brings together the key data, research, and stakeholder input that informed Missouri’s statewide Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS). It shows what was analyzed, what was heard from partners across the state, and how those insights translated into the CEDS themes and priorities. It also serves as a reference library for communities, practitioners, and stakeholders who want to understand the findings in more detail and track the underlying work as the CEDS continues to be implemented.
► Kids Count Data: Annie E Casey has released its 2026 Kids Count Data Book with a focus on data in four domains: economic wellbeing, education, health, and family and community.

► Messaging about ACES: A new ASTHO brief guides public health professionals in crafting clear, action-oriented messaging for adverse childhood experiences prevention. It emphasizes clearly defining problems, aligning messages with shared values, identifying actionable solutions, and translating data into relatable terms.
► Building Capacity for Communicating Impact Learning Community: A new community of practice is offering technical assistance, peer learning, and practical tools to help directly funded Public Health Infrastructure Grant recipients strengthen their strategic leadership and messaging skills. Participants will learn how to effectively translate public health achievements into compelling impact stories for key audiences, and all eligible recipients are encouraged to apply. OPPORTUNITIES
► MFH Creator Fellowship: Missouri Foundation for Health is accepting applications for its first Creator Fellowship. This six-month paid fellowship is for Missouri-based content creators who want to dig deeper into the issues shaping life in their communities and share what they learn with a broader audience. From August 2026 through January 2027, fellows will receive a monthly stipend, expert training, and a built-in community of creators working toward the same goal: helping Missourians understand and advocate for the resources and services that everyone needs to live healthy and thriving lives. That includes topics such as access to food, health care, affordable housing, good jobs, safe communities, and clean air and water. It also could be related to structural barriers like racism and discrimination, which impact health and well-being in deep ways. Apply
► Funding Opportunity: Missouri Foundation for Health invites applications from Black-led and Black-serving organizations that support the well-being of Black birthing people and mothers and their families. Organizations serving diverse populations are also welcome to apply if they can demonstrate a clear and meaningful connection to Black birthing people and mothers and their needs, experiences, and overall well-being. ► Jul 29, Overdose Fatality Review Summit, hosted by DHSS Overdose Data to Action in States team and Overdose Response Strategy (ORS) partners. On site training in Jefferson City for up to 100 Missouri LPHA staff and local partners (coroners/medical examiners, public safety, EMS, hospital ER, behavioral health) to increase the number of local overdose fatality review (OFR) boards in Missouri. Learn what an OFR is and how it can be used to guide overdose prevention and response within a community. Identify local partnerships to establish and conduct OFRs, understand overdose data systems and how to use the data to effectively guide the OFR process, understand how to prioritize and select cases for review, and see how an OFR operates. Register by June 30.

► Sep 1 – 2, Fall Preparedness Summit, in Jefferson City, hosted by DHSS’ Office of Emergency Coordination with the Public Health Emergency Preparedness (PHEP) Program and the Hospital Preparedness Program (HPP). This will replace the traditional Fall Planners Meeting. Location, detailed agenda, and session times are being finalized, but attendees can expect engaging sessions on emergency preparedness and networking opportunities with partners across the state. Additional details, including a registration link, will be shared closer to the date.
