Health Insurance Premium Payment (HIPP) Program
The Health Insurance Premium Payment (HIPP) Program is for MO HealthNet participants who also have private insurance. It helps pay for monthly insurance premiums to cover medical care when it saves money for the state.
How it works:
- You keep your private health insurance (employer policies, personal policies, credit unions, labor unions, etc.)
- Complete the HIPP Application and send the completed application with your current insurance policy for review
- The HIPP program checks if it would cost less to pay a health insurance premium to cover medical care than to pay for services with MO HealthNet funds
- If the cost is lower, the HIPP program pays the insurance premium and sometimes other costs
- You keep using your private insurance for care and MO HealthNet covers the remainder of the balance
Angie Shuster, Southwest Family Partner, shared how the HIPP Program has helped her family, “Before finding out about the HIPP program, I went years with no medical insurance for myself. My daughter with complex needs was covered under Medicaid, but we could not afford insurance for me. The HIPP program reimburses our entire insurance premium, so I no longer have the stress of not having insurance.”
