Described and Captioned Media Program
Free Educational Videos for Students, Families, and Educators
The Described and Captioned Media Program (DCMP) has free educational videos for children to watch at home and school. Their streaming library offers a variety of content for all ages, the educational videos are accessible with closed captioning, audio descriptions, and American Sign Language (ASL). If you are a family member or educator supporting a child or student with a disability (early learner to Grade 12), you can register for a free membership.
Megan Shadrick, Deaf and Hard of Hearing Family Partner, shared her lived experience utilizing DCMP: “When our boys were toddlers, I was always looking for free and good educational content. I found this to be a great resource with a lot of variety in content. We used closed captioning before they could read and now that they can read, they don’t like watching anything without captions! Our nine-year old who is deaf says he ‘hears better with captions!’ We have also shared this resource with our boys’ teachers, as always having closed captioning turned on for videos is on both of their lists of school accommodations. DCMP Media Center is also a great resource for snow days and summer breaks when you are looking for ways to keep your children learning!”
