The Second Regular Session of the 102nd General Assembly Begins

House Higher Education Committee Holds Public Hearing
On Wednesday, January 10, the Higher Education Committee, chaired by Rep. Brenda Shields (St. Joseph) heard HB 1569 and HB 2166. HB 1569, sponsored by Rep. Ann Kelley (Lamar), would create the Career-Tech Certificate program. The bill would expand the eligible programs and approved institutions of the A+ Program for certain types of programs, especially short-term, skill-based programs. HB 2166, sponsored by Rep. Bill Hardwick (Dixon), would modify the educational assistance offered by the Missouri National Guard to include a tuition and fee waiver for undergraduate courses at a public institution of higher education in Missouri or a grant to attend an eligible institution as defined in the bill. The bill would also extend benefits to Guard members’ spouses under certain circumstances.
