General Assembly Announces Committee Assignments and Changes
This week, House and Senate leadership announced the committee chair, vice-chair, and other assignments for the 102nd General Assembly.
There are several noteworthy changes as the 102nd gets under way:
- The House approved a rule change that allows Appropriation subcommittees to access the actual appropriations bills; this change allows subcommittees to amend budget bills rather than offer “recommendations” during their markup process.
- Appropriations subcommittees may consist of members who are not members of the “Committee on Budget,” which is chaired by Rep. Cody Smith (R-Carthage). Amended budget bills from subcommittees will continue to go before the House Committee on Budget.
- The House Workforce Development Committee is renamed the House Workforce and Infrastructure Committee and is chaired by Rep. Louis Riggs (R-Hannibal).
- The Senate Education Committee is renamed the Senate Education and Workforce Development Committee and is chaired by Sen. Andrew Koenig (R-Manchester).
