House Higher Education Committee considers A+ Scholarship expansion legislation
On Monday, April 25, the House Higher Education Committee, chaired by Rep. Brenda Shields (R-St. Joseph), held an executive session on SB 718, sponsored by Sen. Barbara Washington (D-Kansas City). The underlying legislation would designate the third week of September as "Historically Black College and University Week" in Missouri. During the hearing, a House Committee Substitute was offered which expanded the legislation to modify other provisions related to higher education.

The legislation was voted out of committee unanimously and was referred to the Rules – Administrative Oversight Committee.
House Economic Development Committee holds hearing on SB 672—Fast Track Workforce Incentive Grant legislation
On Tuesday, April 26, the House Economic Development Committee, chaired by Rep. Derek Grier (R-Chesterfield), voted do-pass on SB 672, which would extend the Fast Track Workforce Incentive Grant program, make other modifications, and establish economic and workforce development initiatives. The legislation awaits consideration by the House Rules – Legislative Oversight Committee.
Senate Appropriations Committee to Consider HBs 3017-3020 on Monday
On Monday, May 2, the Senate Appropriations Committee, chaired by Sen. Dan Hegeman (R-Andrew) will mark up HBs 3017 – 3020. HB 3017 contains re-appropriations for higher education capital improvement/repair projects for FY 2022 and HB 3020 provides ARPA spending proposals for both higher education institutions and the Department of Higher Education & Workforce Development.
With the Friday, May 6 constitutional budget deadline looming, the Senate and House must quickly conference on these bills and the remaining operating budget bills, which includes HB 3003, and pass each bill through both chambers under a tight deadline.
