KC and STL tech training programs receive recognition and funding from the White House

This week Kansas City and St. Louis were selected to expand their training opportunities in the technology industry after President Barack Obama announced a multi-sector effort to give jobseekers pathways to well-paying technology jobs.

The TechHire initiative will expand efforts to work together with communities and educational institutions to recruit and place jobseekers based on their skills and to create more fast-track tech training opportunities.

More than 20 communities across the country, including Kansas City and St. Louis, are being given the opportunity expand access to technology jobs by using innovative approaches to training including coding boot camps and high-quality online courses that can quickly train workers for a career in technology.

The RebootU program provides accelerated training to pave the way for Kansas City and St. Louis residents to land jobs in information technology. 

Through ReBootU, more than 150 St. Louis employers are currently working to build the skills of women and minorities for information technology jobs by working with a local non-profit organization, Launchcode. Through these efforts, 250 skilled apprentices will be placed with employers like Monsanto, Citibank, Enterprise Rent-a-Car, and Anheuser Busch in 2015.

In Kansas City, the Full Employment Council is partnering with local employers and the University of Central Missouri and Metropolitan Community College to provide customized technology training in healthcare, small businesses and Information Technology firms.
