Adair County earns Certified Work Ready Community designation
Last week, Gov. Jay Nixon traveled to the Kirksville Area Technical Center to congratulate Adair County for being designated as a Certified Work Ready Community (CWRC). The CWRC designation
recognizes successful efforts by community, education and business leaders,
working with the Missouri Division of Workforce Development, to strengthen
workforce training and development to meet the economic development needs of
communities.
 Adair County exceeded its National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) goals to earn the CWRC designation. Its overall goal for
number of residents earning the NCRC was 150; the county surpassed this to
record 176 NCRC holders. Adair County also surpassed each of its individual NCRC workforce goals:
► Emerging Workforce: Goal –
87, Actual – 104
► Current Workforce: Goal – 25,
Actual – 28
► Transitioning Workforce: Goal
– 38, Actual – 44
To support Adair County’s efforts to achieve this
important certification, local employers and organizations worked together,
including local school districts, educational institutions, chambers of
commerce, workforce development and economic development organizations.
About CWRC
In 2012, Missouri was selected as one of the first four
states in the nation to participate in the Certified Work Ready Communities initiative by
American College Testing (ACT). The initiative aligns workforce training
programs with the economic development needs of communities; matches
appropriate applicants to jobs based on skill level; and strengthens businesses
by strengthening the workforce.
In 2013, Jasper County, Missouri was named the first Certified
Work Ready Community in the nation. Missouri currently has 52 counties actively participating in the Certified Work Ready
Community initiative, and ranks second in the nation in number of fully-certified counties.
