MERIC and DWD recognized for excellence in economic development research

Last month, two divisions within the Missouri Department of Economic Development were recognized for developing the innovative Wage Explorer web tool. To commemorate the hard work by these two divisions, the Missouri Economic Research and Information Center (MERIC) and Missouri Division of Workforce Development (DWD) were awarded a C2ER (The Council for Community and Economic Research) “Outstanding Achievement" award, in recognition of excellence in support for data collection/dissemination, during the organization’s annual conference in June.

The Wage Explorer provides students, job seekers, and educators with a better understanding of the connections between training choices and work outcomes. It shows economic developers and businesses the types of training available in their region and the number of students who graduate and work in the state. Additionally, the tool displays the wages one can expect after recently completing a training program in Missouri.

The tool, which went live in January 2014, was developed as part of the Workforce Data Quality Initiative (WDQI) grant that the state received to link public education and workforce records. It represents the culmination of three years of intense work to build partnerships and products, and also demonstrates the power of workforce/education linkages that will have lasting impacts for years to come.

This award marks the 13th national award received by MERIC for research excellence since it was formed in 2001.
