NOTICE OF PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD
OCTOBER 3, 2019 -- The Office of the Military Advocate, on behalf of the Military Preparedness and Enhancement Commission (MMPEC), will be accepting public comments about the proposed 2020-2022 Missouri Military and Defense Strategic Plan until 5 p.m. on October 18, 2019.
MMPEC’s authorizing statute requires the Commission to create a biennial strategic plan that serves as policy direction for the Governor, General Assembly and others in state government regarding the support and enhancement of Missouri’s military assets; current and anticipated Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) criteria; and the protection and attraction of military missions.
Before developing the new strategic plan, MMPEC collected stakeholder input during a month-long virtual town hall in June and July 2019. The virtual town hall allowed the public to answer open-ended questions and surveys regarding the Commission’s goals and strategies related to bases, people, and businesses. The responses collected during the virtual town hall, and an analysis of competing states, were used to update MMPEC’s 2017-2019 Strategic Plan.
The goals contained in the proposed 2020-2022 Missouri Military and Defense Strategic Plan are the following:
- (Bases) Retain and grow Missouri’s military installations and missions, and defense agencies;
- (People) Make Missouri the most supportive place in the nation for Service members and their families, and provide opportunities for them to stay or return when their military service ends;
- (Businesses) Support the success of Missouri businesses that provide services or products for defense and national security.
The Commission’s draft plan includes a newly focused set of six strategies for each goal, which reflect feedback from the virtual town hall.
To submit written comments about the draft strategic plan, email Joe Driskill, Missouri's Military Advocate, at joe.driskill@ded.mo.gov.
The full draft strategic plan can be accessed and downloaded from the following site: DRAFT Strategic Plan
MMPEC intends to adopt the plan, with any needed changes, at its December 3, 2019 quarterly meeting.
