JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.—Missouri’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate edged down
another tenth of a point to 3.4 percent in November, while nonfarm payroll
employment grew by 2,500 jobs, reaching 2,894,400.

The unemployment rate has fallen by 1.1 percentage points over
the past year. The last time Missouri’s unemployment rate was lower than 3.4
percent was in May 2000.
For comparison, the U.S. seasonally adjusted rate in November
was 4.1 percent.
Missouri’s seasonally adjusted rate has been below the
comparable national rate for 32 consecutive months.
Over the past year, Missouri employers have added 30,200 jobs,
for growth of 1.1 percent. The largest
reported growth was in professional, scientific and technical services (+9,100),
followed by accommodation and food services (+9,000). Construction employment
decreased by 6,500 jobs over the year. Employment was up by 7,300 in health
care and social services and by 5,200 in manufacturing.
