The Missouri Department of Economic Development recently announced that Missouri’s
unemployment rate decreased to 3.9 percent in March, the lowest it’s been since
September 2000. The state’s seasonally adjusted
jobless rate decreased by two-tenths of a point and has now been below the U.S.
rate for 24 consecutive months.
Despite Missouri's nonfarm payroll employment dropping by 13,400 from the February level, the Show-Me State gained significant jobs from one of its
top industries. In March, manufacturing grew by 1,900 jobs.

Missouri
Employment throughout the Show-Me State grew by
38,500, or 1.4 percent, over the year. Most industry groups
experienced growth during this period. The largest increases were in:
- Professional & business services (+10,700)
- Leisure & hospitality (+9,700)
- Trade, transportation & utilities (+7,000) and
- Private education & health services (+7,600).

Employment growth
slowed in March, however, the unemployment rate decreased by
two-tenths of a point to 4.5 percent.
Industries that grew in March included:
- Professional & business services (+56,000)
- Health care (+14,000)
- Mining (+11,000) and
- Financial activities (+9,000).
