On the cusp of an official merger between Bayer and St. Louis based Monsanto, state officials announced a meeting with company executives to make sure during the merger jobs stay and investments continue here in Missouri.
Months
after announcing the impending merger between the two global companies, Bayer reaffirmed its commitment to keeping jobs in Missouri.
“Missouri, and its center of excellence in the sciences,
is perfectly aligned with our purpose,” he said. “The proposed combination with
Monsanto will unite two complementary research pipelines powered by some of the
brightest minds today,” said Bayer CEO Werner Baumann.
Baumann said he insisted that
the combined agricultural business of Bayer and Monsanto will have its
global Seeds & Traits and North American commercial headquarters in St.
Louis.
“The company and its employees are a critical pillar in
St. Louis’ international leadership in the plant science economy, agriculture
research and education, and outstanding contributors to cultural institutions
and charitable organizations,” said Gov. Jay Nixon. “I also stressed the
opportunities for further investment and growth both in St. Louis and at
Bayer’s existing 240-acre Kansas City facility that provides more than 840
jobs.”

The meetings at Bayer followed a business development and
investment visit to Israel, and preceded a Missouri trade delegations visit to the United
Arab Emirates to continue to drive Missouri export growth and job creation, as
well as foreign investment in the Show-Me State.
