Hannibal Partners with General Mills to Assess and Identify Qualified Candidates

General Mills worked with the Hannibal Job Center to identify 100 candidates for production worker positions. Staff at the center were tasked with conducting initial assessments.

According to Kim Cull, Workforce Development Supervisor at the Hannibal Job Center, this is a continuation of a long-standing working relationship between the Job Center and General Mills.

“We have been working with General Mills for many years,” Cull said. Once General Mills gets a set of qualified candidates, they give a mechanical assessment and interview those who successfully complete it.

This relationship has been very successful. Cull said the company has put a number of eligible WIA candidates back to work through the On-the-Job training program.

New Workforce Centers Open in St. Louis Area

Four new Neighborhood Workforce Centers have opened in the St. Louis region as a result of a $5 million grant from the U. S. Department of Labor. A fifth center is scheduled to open in March. The centers were established by the St. Louis Agency on Training and Employment, the St. Louis County Division of Workforce Development, and the Family and Workforce Centers of America as part of the St. Louis Career Pathways Bridge initiative.

SLATE is committed to working with local organizations and developing partnerships to help people in neighborhoods most in need of services. These centers were opened as a pilot in hopes that the communities will utilize services the workforce system offers.

“On behalf of all the partners who are working with us on the centers, we are committed to providing workforce services to residents in the St. Louis City and North County areas,” said Mike Holmes, Executive Director of St. Louis Agency on Training and Employment.

Director's Corner

Thank you to the staff at the Cape Girardeau Job Center, Vocational Rehabilitation, Adult Education, United Way of SEMO, JobCorps, Missouri Division of Probation and Parole, Cape Girardeau Career and Technology Center, SEMO Alliance for Disability Independence, and Love INC of SEMO. These agencies hold a joint monthly One-Stop Leaders Meeting to discuss ongoing activities and new programs, keeping each organization up-to-date with information critical to providing services to shared customers.

“We have recently used this group to identify better ways of referring people from one organization to the next and following-up to ensure clients have been taken care of,” Berry said. “This meeting has enabled clients from other agencies to be made aware of programs throughout the area.”

These meetings have led to a new collaborative project in which Job Center staff members assist the Department of Social Services with Child Care Subsidy paperwork. The new pilot program shortens the turnaround process from several weeks to just 72 hours.

Efforts and coordination of all of these agencies partnering together in SEMO truly embodies the spirit of WIOA collaboration. Keep up the great work!
