Gov.
Nixon extends deadline for Comprehensive State Energy Plan
Gov. Jay Nixon last week signed Executive Order 15-02, giving the
Division of Energy additional time to develop a comprehensive State Energy
Plan. The Governor’s action extends the deadline from May 31, 2015 to October
15, 2015.
“Since we began the process of developing a comprehensive
State Energy Plan last year, the response from Missourians across the state has
been overwhelming,” said Gov. Nixon. “Energy
is an issue that touches every aspect of our economy and shapes our daily
lives. Allowing the Division of Energy more time to gather input from Missourians
and engage in thoughtful discussions with stakeholders, legislators and other
interested parties will result in the development of a stronger State Energy
Plan.”
 Last year, Gov. Nixon signed Executive Order 14-06 to formally launch the development of a Comprehensive State Energy Plan, led by DED’s Division of Energy. The Governor directed the Division to form a steering committee consisting of community leaders, business owners, and residents.

In
2010, the Governor’s Strategic Initiative for Economic Growth identified
“Energy Solutions” as one of seven target industries with the highest potential
for creating jobs and spurring economic growth. In 2013, in
recognition of energy’s unique and growing importance to the state’s economy,
Gov. Nixon issued an executive order realigning the Division of Energy from the
Department of Natural Resources to the Department of Economic Development,
which the General Assembly approved.
