A Word from the CEO

It has been just over a year since the “unwinding” of continuous coverage requirements began for Minnesotans on Medical Assistance and MinnesotaCare. During this time, the Department of Human Services has been reviewing eligibility for those public health programs to see who still qualifies.

Since renewals restarted, MNsure has helped people who no longer qualify for Medical Assistance or MinnesotaCare find private health insurance, sending official notices to those who need new coverage, and taking thousands of calls in our Contact Center to make sure people get the help they need.

Our outreach efforts have also included sending postcards, emails and text messages to let consumers know what options they have available through MNsure and to remind them about enrollment deadlines.

We’re grateful to our certified assisters who are playing a critical role in these efforts. Since the unwinding began, navigators have helped more than 30,000 Minnesotans apply for Medical Assistance or MinnesotaCare coverage or complete their renewal. Our broker partners have helped more than 1,000 families make the transition from public program coverage to a qualified health plan.

All this work is generating results: Since last spring, we have enrolled more than 11,500 people who lost Medical Assistance or MinnesotaCare into private health insurance plans.

Over the next several months, we will continue to reach out to Minnesotans who may need new coverage. So, remember, if you are enrolled in Medical Assistance or MinnesotaCare, keep your contact information updated so you don’t miss any important information about your current coverage, or new coverage options.

Take Care of Your Mental Health

May is Mental Health Awareness Month! Did you know that mental health services for children and adults are covered by all plans sold through MNsure?

Health plans through MNsure provide other protections, too. You can’t be denied coverage or be charged more just because you have pre-existing conditions such as mental health issues.

Coverage of treatment begins the day your plan starts, so you can get the help you need.

Follow us on Facebook or Instagram for more tips on using your coverage and staying healthy.

If you have questions about your coverage, call your insurance company to get help.

Insurance Options for New Graduates

Are you graduating from college soon? Congrats! Don’t forget to check your health insurance options so you are covered if you are losing your student health plan.

MNsure’s here to help. Visit MNsure.org or work with a free assister.

How to End Private Health Coverage

If you are enrolled in a MNsure private plan and want to end your coverage (for instance, if you become eligible for Medicare), you must do so through MNsure.

You can end coverage for enrolled members of your plan through your online MNsure account, or by calling our Contact Center.

Notifying your insurance company does not end your plan.

Note: Once you end private coverage through MNsure, you may not be able to re-enroll until the next open enrollment period (unless you qualify for special enrollment).
