A Word from the CEO

Last week marked the 12th anniversary of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The ACA has helped thousands of Minnesotans access comprehensive health coverage, and last year the American Rescue Plan Act improved upon it by expanding federal advanced premium tax credits.

The federal COVID-19 relief package lowered health insurance costs for tens of thousands of Minnesotans, and expanded access to subsidies to those who had previously been ineligible.

Unfortunately, these cost savings will be unavailable in 2023 if Congress does not act again.

About 70,000 Minnesotans who currently access premium tax credits will receive less generous financial help to lower the cost of their premiums, and we’ve estimated that over 10,500 will lose access to all of their current financial help.

I’ve written to our Congressional delegation to ask for their support to extend these benefits beyond the end of 2022. Our hope is that Congress will act soon and provide certainty to the thousands of Minnesotans across the state who depend on these expanded benefits to access and maintain the health coverage they need.

New Public Awareness Campaign for Year-Round Enrollment

MNsure qualifying life event ad: Plot twist in your story? See if you qualify for health insurance through MNsure

While open enrollment runs for a limited time each year, many Minnesotans have life changes that could come at any time of year, which make them eligible to sign up for coverage through a special enrollment period.

MNsure is focusing public awareness efforts on these opportunities to get covered, with a year-round campaign of online, social media and radio ads.

Look for our ads this spring and summer, and if you know someone who qualifies for a special enrollment, tell them to check out their options through MNsure.org.
