Graduate with Coverage

Graduating from college this spring? Congrats! Don’t forget to look at your health insurance options so you are covered. If graduating means losing your health insurance, you may qualify for a special enrollment period. You can stay on a parent's plan if you are younger than 26, or you can enroll through MNsure on your own. Free application help is available. Many young adults qualify for low-cost or no-cost options.

Get Covered through a Special Enrollment

The COVID-19 special enrollment period for Minnesotans who are uninsured or not currently enrolled through MNsure runs through July 16.

You can have coverage as soon as June 1 if you enroll by Monday, May 31.

Check your options for comprehensive coverage at MNsure.org. Be sure you’re not missing out on a chance to get financial help, too.

Other Options for 2021 Coverage

• Qualifying life events, like getting married, having a baby, moving, or losing coverage from an employer, can make you eligible for a 60-day special enrollment period.
• Year-round enrollment is available to anyone who qualifies for Medical Assistance or MinnesotaCare or is a member of a federally recognized American Indian tribe.

Ending Private Coverage

If you are enrolled in a private health or dental plan through MNsure and want to end your coverage, you must contact us. Stopping payments or notifying your insurance company does not end your plan.

You can end coverage for all enrolled members of a plan through your MNsure account. To remove only some members from a plan, call our Contact Center.

Note: Once you end private coverage through MNsure, you may not be able to re-enroll until the next annual open enrollment period (unless you qualify for a special enrollment period).
