Mark Your Calendar: Open Enrollment Period Dates Set

2021 open enrollment starts Nov. 1 and ends Dec. 22, 2020

MNsure’s eighth open enrollment period will be Sunday, November 1, through Tuesday, December 22.

That is seven days longer than the federal open enrollment period, giving Minnesotans an extra week to enroll in 2021 health care coverage during the current public health crisis.

If you enroll by December 22, you will have coverage on January 1, 2021.

"With COVID-19 still very much with us and the flu season ahead, it's especially critical that Minnesotans have health care coverage for a full 12 months," said MNsure CEO Nate Clark.

You will be able to view and compare 2021 plans in mid-October to get prepared to enroll.

Keep Your Account Up to Date

Report a change like a new baby, a new address, a change in income

Currently enrolled in a private health plan through MNsure? Since the 2021 renewal process is coming up soon, it's important to update your MNsure account if any of your information changes. That could include a new address, changes to your income or additions to your family.

You need to report any changes that affect your enrollment or your eligibility for financial help within 30 days of the change.

Why?

  • The amount of financial help you qualify for could go up or down
  • You could qualify to switch plans
  • Your plan might not be available if you have moved to a different area
  • So that notices and forms are mailed to the correct address

2020 Coverage Available through Special Enrollment

You could still qualify to enroll through a special enrollment period.

When you experience big life events like getting married, having a baby or moving, you can be eligible for a special enrollment period.

You may qualify for a special effective date of coverage. In most cases, you must enroll within 60 days of the event.

Go to our website for a list of qualifying life events for more details.

If you qualify for Medical Assistance or MinnesotaCare, or are a member of a federally recognized American Indian tribe, you can enroll through MNsure at any time of the year.
