Don't Delay to Get 2017 Health Coverage

MNsure urges Minnesotans who need coverage to shop and enroll in health insurance this open enrollment period to secure health care coverage for 2017. If you purchase a plan by December 15, you will be insured on January 1.

“We know some Minnesotans are confused because they’re hearing news coverage about potential changes in the law,” said MNsure CEO Allison O'Toole. “We want to make it very clear to Minnesotans: If you enroll this open enrollment period, you’re protected through 2017.”

While premiums charged by private insurance companies have increased this year, many Minnesotans are finding that their increases are partially or fully offset by monthly tax credits, which are only available through MNsure. Individuals earning up to $47,520 per year and families of four earning up to $97,200 per year can qualify.

Medica Enrollment Cap Reached

Medica has reached its enrollment cap and is no longer accepting new customers for 2017 insurance coverage, both on and off MNsure.

Medica plans are now only available to those renewing coverage with Medica and consumers in certain counties (find out if you qualify).

Plans from other health insurance companies are still available, but it’s important to complete your enrollment as soon as possible to have access to the widest range of plan options available.

Enrollment Update

As of November 13, MNsure has enrolled more than 35,000 people into health coverage, including 23,883 in a private health plan, 8,574 in Medical Assistance and 2,753 in MinnesotaCare. MNsure’s private health plan enrollment is on a record pace, with the majority of consumers qualifying for tax credits.

Special Enrollment Options Still Available

Big life events like having a baby, getting married or losing insurance due to a layoff could allow you to get private health insurance coverage outside of open enrollment. Go to our website for a list of qualifying life events and find out how to apply for a special enrollment period.

If you qualify for Medical Assistance or MinnesotaCare, are a member of a federally recognized Indian tribe, or are a small group employer, you can enroll through MNsure at any time of the year.
