Open enrollment is underway and Minnesotans are acting fast
to enroll in health insurance. As of Wednesday, we’ve enrolled more than 20,000
people in health coverage.
If you still need to enroll, be sure to shop early this
year. For the first time ever, Minnesota’s health insurance companies have
imposed enrollment caps on the number of customers they will accept. As
companies meet their caps, we will be instructed to remove their plans from the
marketplace and they will stop taking new enrollees.
Shopping now means making sure you have access to the full
range of plan options available. As a first step, you can try out our plan comparison tool
to receive an estimate of the tax credits available to you, as well as to
compare plans side by side based on your estimated total cost of care for the
year.
If you are currently enrolled in a plan, you will be able to
renew your coverage unless you receive a letter indicating your plan is no
longer available. If you are considering shopping and comparing plans this
year, choices will become more limited as insurance companies reach their caps.
Further information about these enrollment caps is available
on the MNsure website.
Don’t wait! If you haven’t started the process yet, start

The results of this week’s elections do not change MNsure's focus
on providing high quality customer service to Minnesotans shopping for health
care coverage and encouraging Minnesotans to take advantage of the financial help
available only through MNsure.
As it stands, there have been no changes to the Affordable
Care Act. Minnesotans who enroll during the current open enrollment period will
have coverage throughout 2017 as long as they pay their monthly premiums on
time.
Did you know that more than 230,000 Minnesotans still lack
access to quality, affordable insurance?
If you care about increasing access to health care, pledge
your support through our ThunderClap
social media campaign today! Spread the word that Minnesotans need to get
enrolled and that tax credits can help make coverage more affordable.
You can support the campaign through Facebook, Twitter and
Tumblr. Visit our #GetMNCovered
campaign page to join your voice with ours.

With private health insurance coverage, you may have costs besides the monthly premium, which are important to consider when choosing a plan.
- Deductible: The amount you must pay out of pocket for covered health care services before your insurance plan begins to pay. (The deductible may not apply to all services.)
- Co-pay: A fixed amount you pay for a covered health care service, usually when you receive the service. The amount can vary by the type of covered health care service.
- Co-insurance: Your share of the costs of a covered health care service, calculated as a percentage of the allowed amount for the service. You pay co-insurance plus any deductibles you owe. For example, if the plan's allowed amount for an office visit is $100 and you've met your deductible, your co-insurance payment of 20% would be $20.
Big life events like
having a baby, getting married or losing insurance due to a layoff could allow
you to get private health insurance coverage outside of open enrollment. Go to
our website for a list of qualifying
life events and find out how to apply for a special enrollment period.
If you qualify for Medical Assistance or MinnesotaCare, are a member of
a federally recognized Indian tribe, or are a small group employer, you can
enroll through MNsure at any time of the year.
