Accidental shooting in Voyageurs National Park
On 09/03/26 at about 0619 hours, St. Louis County Deputies responded to the Ash River visitor center in Voyageurs National Park on a report of an accidental shooting. Upon arrival, deputies located a 40-year-old Iowa man who had shot himself in the lower leg. The incident occurred while he was unloading his handgun in his tent. The man was camping with friends on Namakan Lake. After the incident, his friends assisted him to the visitor's center, where they acquired enough cell service to call 911.
The man was transported by ambulance to Rainy Lake Medical Center in International Falls for treatment. The injury is not believed to be life threatening.
