Suspected Electrocution in Accidental Death

On 07/17/2026 at approximately 4:47 PM, St. Louis County Dispatch received a 911 call reporting that a male was in the water on Lake Vermilion and was being electrocuted by a boat, near the 9100 block of Voss Road in Beatty Township. Deputies responded to the scene along with the Cook Fire Department and EMS. Life saving efforts were unsuccessful, and the 39 year old male died at the scene. Preliminary investigation indicates that the male was swimming in the lake when he grabbed the docked boat, at which time witnesses stated the male appeared to receive and electric shock and went unconscious. The boats’ electrical system appeared to be plugged into a nearby boathouse at the time of the incident.

The name of the party is being withheld at this time so family members can be properly notified. No further details are available as the results of the Medical Examiner’s Office investigation are pending.

The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office thanks The Cook Fire Department, Cook Ambulance, Lifelink, and Lake Country Power for their assistance in responding to this tragic incident.
