Nathan Douglas Davin Sentenced

Court file #69DU-CR-25-2700

Today in St. Louis County District Court in Duluth, Judge Leslie E. Beiers sentenced Nathan Douglas Davin, 47, to 261 months in prison for Murder in the Second Degree, with Intent, not Premeditated, for the August 16, 2025, murder of his mother, announced St. Louis County Attorney Kim Maki.  Mr. Davin’s sentence was within the presumed guideline range for his crime, according to Minnesota law.

Mr. Davin pleaded guilty to the crime on June 8, 2026.  During his plea, Mr. Davin admitted that on August 16, 2025, he murdered his elderly mother in their residence on Ninth Avenue East in Duluth. Law enforcement found Mr. Davin at the residence with blood on his hands. Inside the home, officers found Mr. Davin’s mother in a recliner deceased from a devastating gunshot wound to her face. The firearm used in this matter was found in Mr. Davin’s bedroom. Mr. Davin was taken to the Duluth Police Department headquarters during the investigation. Although he initially denied responsibility, while sitting alone in an interview room, Mr. Davin admitted to killing his mother.  Following his guilty plea, Mr. Davin was sent to prison to start serving his anticipated sentence, pending today’s hearing.

“No sentence from the Court today can erase the pain of losing a valuable member of our community and a loved one, particularly at the hands of a family member,” said County Attorney Maki.  “This sentence ensures that Mr. Davin is held accountable and reflects the gravity of his actions.”

The St. Louis County Attorney’s Office credits the successful resolution of the case to the Duluth Police Department and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. Their diligent work investigating this difficult case made this resolution possible.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant St. Louis County Attorney Kirstyn Oye and Duluth Criminal Division Head Nathaniel Stumme.
