Demetrius Remond Norwood Sentenced
Court file #69DU-CR-25-3156
Today, in St. Louis County District Court, the Honorable Leslie E. Beiers sentenced Demetrius Remond Norwood, 37, to 147.5 months in prison for Attempted Murder in the Second Degree – With Intent, Not Premeditated, announced St. Louis County Attorney Kim Maki. The sentence, which was agreed to by the parties, falls within the Minnesota Sentencing Guidelines for this offense.
During a plea hearing on May 21, 2026, Mr. Norwood admitted that he had attempted to murder a female friend. Mr. Norwood told the court that on September 24, 2025, while drinking with friends, he became angry at his female friend, went to her house while she was away, and began yelling at her over the phone. As she pulled up to her house, Mr. Norwood admitted that he ran towards her vehicle and said he was going to kill her. Believing she was in grave danger, the victim sped away from her house. In response, Mr. Norwood shot at her twice as she was driving away. One of the bullets struck the trunk of her car.
“The sentence given to Mr. Norwood reflects the serious and outrageous nature of his actions,” said County Attorney Maki. “We will not tolerate gun violence in our community. We are committed to prosecuting offenses of this nature to the fullest extent of the law and will continue working to protect the safety and well-being of our residents.”
The St. Louis County Attorney’s Office thanks Duluth Police Department for their diligent work in investigating this matter.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant County Attorney Vicky Wanta.
