House fire in the city of Mt. Iron
On Tuesday July 1st, at approximately 02:44 A.M. the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office was alerted to the report of a house fire on the 5000 Blk of Carnation Ave. in the City of Mt. Iron.
It was reported that the house was engulfed in flames and that all occupants of the house had been evacuated, however several pets were unaccounted for.
Upon law enforcement arrival, it was learned that the occupants were woken by the fire, in addition to smoke detectors that were working. The homeowner was able to extinguish the flames; however, they were subsequently transported by ambulance for treatment of smoke inhalation.
The Red Cross is assisting the family with temporary placement of housing.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Sheriff's Office, with assistance from the Minnesota State Fire Marshal's office.
