Tyler Walter Edwards Sentenced
Court file #69DU-CR-25-1276
Today in St. Louis County District Court in Duluth, the Honorable Jill A. Eichenwald sentenced Tyler Walter Edwards, 27, to 204 months in prison for Second-Degree Unintentional Murder, announced St. Louis County Attorney Kim Maki.
On April 21, 2026, Mr. Edwards pleaded guilty to Second-Degree Unintentional Murder. During the hearing Mr. Edwards admitted that he and the victim, Maxton Keith Gudowski, got into a heated argument, and he stabbed the victim multiple times with a knife causing his death inside a residence located on N. 47th Avenue East in Duluth.
“This case is about a life that was taken and the lasting impact on family, friends, and the community,” said County Attorney Maki. “The court’s sentence reflects the seriousness of this offense and the value of the life that was so needlessly taken. Although no sentence can fully account for this loss, we hope today’s outcome provides a measure of justice for our community, and healing for Mr. Gudowski’s family and friends.”
The St. Louis County Attorney’s Office credits the successful prosecution of this case to the investigation by the Duluth Police Department, the Duluth Fire Department, and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
The case was prosecuted by Duluth Criminal Division Head Nathaniel Stumme.
